Trivia
Each week across Canada, 130,000 bowlers participate in regular league play and an equal number visit a local bowling centre for a birthday party, a company outing, a charity fundraiser, a night of Rock 'n' Bowl or just a fun day out with friends and family. That’s almost one per cent of the entire population of this country...
History
Tommy Ryan invented 5 pin bowling in
1909 when he transformed his downtown Toronto bowling centre from a tenpin
facility to the new game of 5 pin bowling. Apparently, the tenpin variety was
too slow and the customers suggested that the pinboys “just set up half
of the pins so we can finish faster." When a lighter bowling ball was
introduced and a rubber band added around pins, a truly Canadian sport and
recreation was born.
